I missed two weeks at the gym because of my travels and I found myself looking forward to returning to the gym (or maybe checking out my gains in from of the mirror *shrug*).
It made me start thinking about why we do what we do. In this case, I’m not going to the gym because of my health (even though it has aided in my recovery). The primary reason is that I’m trying to get my summer body!!!!
Shouldn’t health be more important??
Every one of us acts in certain ways or wake up every morning driven by something. For some people, it is the fear of being broke, for others, it is because they want to repay their parents for sacrificing for them, others just want to live the ‘baby boy’ life.
Whatever your motivation is, don’t be ashamed of it.
Also, for different aspects of your life, you will have different motivations.
For the gym, as I mentioned earlier, I just want to be eye candy. For my career, I just want to leave anyone I come in contact with better than I met them. A motivation I equally share with my wife.
Ask yourself why?
Why do you wake up every morning?
What gives you joy?
Why are you more motivated to do certain things than others?
When you find that underlying reason, own it, and use it to fuel your growth!
P.s: Does your motivation bring joy to the world? Think about it!
You know my letters wouldn’t be complete without me plugging the podcast.
This week I had the pleasure of having a conversation with Temitope Ekundayo, co-CEO of Printivo and cofounder of GetEquity.
