I was listening to my wife edit a video reel for Instagram and a question she asked in the video while teaching a group on branding was “What is your motivation?”
It immediately took me back to my years managing one of the biggest entrepreneurship programmes in Africa, and how I kept reminding each cohort that they had to be proud of their motivations, their why, and what led them to start their businesses.
Your motivation could be that you never want to see your parents live in the ‘village’, it could be you want to show off to that girl who dumped you in secondary school, and it might also be that you saw a problem and you want to solve it by all means.
Whatever your motivations are, own it! We don’t all have to be altruistic, we will not be all Gandhi.
We won’t all change the world but we can change our realities in our spheres of influence for the better, and this in turn will positively impact those around us.
So instead of changing the world, focus on changing your world!
