Let’s get right in…. Today’s note will be short.
My partner recommended a Korean series "Celebrity," available on Netflix to watch over the weekend and it was worth our time. It beautifully illustrated the significance of staying grounded in our values and never letting the world dictate who we are. While there were many lessons from the series, these stood out for me.
The story follows a group of young determined women aspiring to become famous celebrities, especially those who weren’t born into wealth. In their relentless pursuit of fame, they risked losing touch with their true self and the support system that family and friends provide. It became quite obvious that most weren’t friends but leveraging their way up the ‘ladder’ by pretending to be friends.
This series emphasised the importance of staying true to our values, as compromising them can lead to losing our sense of identity and authenticity.
Moreover, "Celebrity" highlights the dangers of underestimating the needs of our closest connections. The obsession with career success and social status causes some people to neglect those they would typically call family, abandoning the emotional bonds that were essential to their journey. This was a reminder for me to cherish the love and care of our loved ones who stand by us through thick and thin and also understand our place in their own journey.
Lastly, it explored the pressure of meeting society's expectations and the allure of fame, which oftentimes divert us from what truly matters. While ambition and success are essential, finding balance by appreciating simple joys and meaningful connections is equally crucial, now more than ever.
In conclusion, "Celebrity" delivers a compelling message of staying rooted in our values, valuing our loved ones, and finding a balance between personal growth and the demands of the world. This series was a reminder to cherish meaningful connections, preserve our authenticity, and cultivate empathy as we navigate our own life journeys.
