I spoke with Prasanth Kumar this week on the Grinders Table and he made a statement that has stuck with me - “Live life like its an experiment”
The Oxford Dictionary defines an experiment as a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
Here’s why I absolutely agree with Prasanth. Life is best lived with a purpose, a reason to get out of bed, a goal. Once you lose that, you become disillusioned and even depressed. Data has shown us that more people are happy when there’s a reason to ‘life’. And this reason is different from person to person.
The next question is - How do I find the reason right?
There’s no hard or fast rule to this. One sure way is to experiment!
Since the goal of every experiment is to discover, test a hypothesis or demonstrate a known fact, why is it that many people are afraid to do this? Fear of failure? Fear of the unknown?
Your fear is valid and I believe that there’s a way around it - Iterate / Iteration.
Wikipedia defines iteration as a procedure in which repetition of a sequence of operations yields results successively closer to the desired result.
In other words, every iteration, no matter how small, gets you closer to an outcome. And that outcome is usually the beginning of another iteration.
So instead of viewing life as this big journey filled with big life-changing decisions, see life as a series of small experiments you are undertaking with much smaller iterations.
In conclusion, no one has the template for life, but those that have lived a fulfilled life have often viewed life as a series or collection of experiments that they draw experiences from.
