I am sitting here typing and trying to figure out what lesson I'd like to share with you, humming "Runaway" by Styl-Plus with my wife, music playing in the background, as we plough through work and our personal projects at 9:33pm.
It's late! Why do we still have our laptops open?
Well,
We have some key deliverables
We enjoy working together (most of the time 😂)
We find interesting ways to integrate our work styles and schedules
Lastly, we try to make work as fun as possible.
Of course, this advice doesn't work for all professions, but you can find what works for you.
Let's be honest, no matter how much you love work, work is work! It's not always pleasurable. For those times when the grind feels draining and monotonous, it's crucial to find little pockets of joy that make the journey more enjoyable. Whether it's listening to your favourite tunes, playing your favourite series in the background, working alongside your partner, or finding creative ways to tackle tasks, these small pleasures can reinvigorate you and keep you going.
Why is it so important to find the little pleasures in your work? Because work is a significant part of our lives, and if we can't find moments of satisfaction and fulfilment within it, burnout becomes inevitable.
One person who brought my attention to the idea of finding pleasure in work is Massimiliano Spalazzi, the former CEO of Jumia Nigeria. In this week's episode of The Grinders Table Podcast, we delved into his journey of growing a startup from Lagos to listing in the New York Stock Exchange.
