Everybody want to be a leader, no one wants the responsibility
Chronicles of an Afropreneur

Dear ,
Everybody loves the title a leader carries - CEO, Manager, Founder, VP etc., but few understand the ramifications of being a person in authority.
Look around you, the President, Governors, Local gov't chairmen/women, Religious leaders, Estate heads, most have one thing in common - they love the titles but shy away from the responsibility and weight of their roles.
Leadership is more than just the title or position, it is about creating a lasting positive impact on the organisation and the employees/followers.
It is not about your depth of knowledge or skill, although this may play a huge role in you getting the leadership role. Think about it, the best leaders in history were rarely the best skilled or einstein-level intelligent. They just knew how to steer all factors of 'production' toward attaining success, employees included.
And yes, Leadership skills can be learned!
So ask yourself these questions today:
- Am I a leader in my space?
- What role do I play currently?
- What style of leadership do I currently possess?
- How can I be better? What skill do I need to learn?
- Which leader would I want to model myself after?
- How can I bring my leadership skills to the fore in my everyday life?
Lastly and most importantly, leadership is situational and contextual. You will have to learn to switch between various leadership styles depending on the goals and emotional state of the led.
I'll end on a lighter note - run away from leadership roles if you are not ready to balance the wants of the followers and the organisation. Leadership is hard!
