True/False? - If it ain't broke don't fix it 💬
Chronicles of an Afropreneur
Dear ,
First off, compliments of the season! Don't forget to do something nice for someone/the people around you - 2020 has been a tough year.
While discussing business and strategy, I often hear this statement - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Before you go ahead, reply to this email with your thoughts on the statement above - TRUE or FALSE.
While there may be some merits to this statement and it may be foolish trying to 'reinvent the wheel' when something works, I find this statement lazy.
Here's why - no exceptional entrepreneur or successful person that I know fully imbibes the statement above. In short, the most impactful entrepreneurs and leaders are those who tackled the status-quo.
Just because it ain't broke, doesn't mean you can't make it better!
Successful entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos and Steve Jobs lived by this mantra.
Jeff asked an important question - How do we make the reading experience better? Even if physical books were most effective, Amazon redefined the reading and learning experience by building the Kindle - lighter, portable, and easy to sync tons of books.
Steve asked an important question - how do we allow our users to have enough screen area to view the contents of their phone without increasing the size or weight of the phone. Mind you, Blackberry was hugely successful because of the accuracy of the physical keyboard. Apple eventually introduced the on-screen keyboard, which ended up skyrocketing the iPhone to greatness.
As you enter 2021, ask yourself - how can I make things better in every facet of my life, career and business?
A seemingly small improvement (which may also be a lot of work) could be all you need to more successful compared to your peers.
See you in 2021!
Keep grinding,
Uwem
