You can't lose hope 💪
Chronicles of an Afropreneur

Dear ,
The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster! For those of you (my international audience) that know little about the 'drama' in Nigeria, there was a protest against police brutality and the government sought to quell it using the same violence and brutality the young people were protesting against. Some people died, others injured, businesses suffered from the resulting curfew and a lot of people lost hope. During this period, I found myself having to help with the coordination of food and medical supplies to people who needed it the most.
And it's the same story all around the African continent - Congo, Uganda, Cameroon to mention a few.
It's not all gloomy though, on a personal note, we (Ingressive Capital) made some fantastic investments in 6 Startups within the last quarter. Who said Covid19 will stop us?
Back to why I have been silent - I found myself slightly depressed. For those who are close to me, you know how much I believe in Africa and Nigeria in particular. But the events of the last few weeks got me questioning my beliefs. Asking myself why I was doing all I was doing, putting in so much work, yet the people charged with steering the affairs of the continent only cared about their personal interests.
But I can't lose hope, neither can you!
Here's why you can't lose hope. Hope brings resilience, resilience breeds creativity in the face of obstacles. Hope keeps us alive, hope births the future we want!
You have to learn to be hopeful, even though 2020 has been an 'eventful' year with more bad news than good news for many.
Here's what you can do:
Learn to catch those negative thoughts early. Identify them and possibly reframe those negative thought patterns.
Remember that you are still in control of somethings in your life, no matter how small.
Lean into honest and authentic connections aka. friends, mentors, support system etc.
Remember that no matter how bad your situation is, some people may have it worse. Count your blessings.
Get busy, get to work. Hope without the accompanying work is a total waste of time.
Remember that I and the #AfropreneurTribe is always here if you need anyone to talk to.
Keep Grinding,
Uwem
