Are you building to last?
Chronicles of an Afropreneur
Are you building your business to last?
Today I am at the Federal University of Owerri in Nigeria to speak to graduating class on "Surviving the first few years of Startup"
It's no farce that 90% of startups fail, but we can change that statistic. How you may ask, by putting structures in place to get the best out of the factors listed below:
The team
The product
And the market
Here are some characteristics of startups/business that stand the test of time
They start with what they have available, they don't wait for that million-dollar investment. They make the best of the available resources at their disposal.
They actively seek feedback and are constantly improving their product/service.
They resource appropriately. Eventually, you will see that your product/service is as good as the people you hire. You cannot do and know everything as the founder, you must learn to delegate.
Their product is a fit for the market. There is enough addressable market to profit from.
The entrepreneur is not carried away by little successes. Successful entrepreneurs understand that they must work on their business, not in their business.
The Company grows. Growth leads to more growth, which leads to even more growth.
Keep Grinding,
