What is your WHY?
Chronicles of an Afropreneur
What is your WHY?
While on my mini vacation, I joined my partner (Blessing Abeng) and celebrity photographer (Emmanuel Oyeleke) for Revealed Workshops, a workshop for photographers that combines tourism and learning.
During one of the lunch session which was filled with conversations and bants, one of the photographers spoke about how she missed out on getting paid several times because she lost her motivation.
What motivates you? What gets you in the mood to take on the world? Why do you do what you do?
I often tell the entrepreneurs I work with, your motivations can be broken down into two parts -
Intrinsic (driven by internal rewards fuelled by experiences, principles)
Extrinsic (driven by external rewards such as money, fame, awards etc).
Whatever your WHY is, be it to impress that girl or wife to be, to prove your parents wrong because you chose to be an entrepreneur, to build a house for your mother, be proud of it! Tap into it and use it to create the best value/business possible.
The entrepreneur’s journey is not easy and will consist of days you do not feel like getting out of your bed. Always reminding yourself of your why will move your psyche from survival mode to conquering mode.
